This range of pond pumps from Hozelock are solids handling dirty water pump designed specifically for waterfalls and filtration systems.  The complete range of Aquaforce filter pumps have a square design casing allowing it to be laid flat on the pond floor or place vertically in the pond. The casing also has a carry handle, making it easier for removal from the pond.
